The LWV Syracuse Metro Area was saddened to learn of the passing of one of its longtime members, Jayne Humbert. Jayne was a fierce organizer and trained scores of other volunteers especially in the area of voter registration, setting up tables at the bus depot and at health centers. Among her many accolades, Jayne was honored in May 2025 with the Volunteer “Exceptional Woman of CNY” award by Assemblywoman Pamela Hunter. Jayne worked tirelessly throughout her life in service to others. We know her influence and presence will forever be felt by those who knew and loved her. A memorial service to honor Jayne’s legacy will be June 27, 2026 at University United Methodist Church, 1085 E. Genesee Street, Syracuse.

The League’s Annual Legislative Breakfast is a non-partisan event. All NYS Representatives are invited regardless of party affiliation.

On March 31, President Trump signed an Executive Order attempting to seize control of elections by creating a list of US citizens who are eligible to vote by mail in each state, though experts say he lacks the authority to do so.

The League of Women Voters agreed! Joining with other Leagues and represented by the ACLU, LWV Massachusetts filed a lawsuit in US District Court on April 2. We will be monitoring the case for updates.

Finally, as we head into the spring and summer weather, with annual meetings and planning for the future, it is important that we all take some time for self-care. May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Let’s re-energize so that we may maximize this November!
